Ceramic & porcelain tile can make a great aesthetic addition to many rooms in your home, like the living room, kitchen, bathroom or the shower. But cut tiles are an integral part of any ceramic tile installation. You may need to cut tiles to fit the perimeter of the room, to fit around obstacles, or to remove a portion of the tile to fit a second tile into it. If your room is out of square and in an odd angle, or you are laying your tiles on a diagonal, you need to make angular cuts in the tiles. So today I'm gonna give you some tips on how to cut angles on ceramic tile. The tools you'll need for this are a square a pencil tape measure and cutting board.

Tips On Cutting Angles For Ceramic Tile

Cutting angles for tile is not very different than making straight cuts, measurement is the most important part. To cut tiles, simply measure the length from the wall to the edge of the tile on each side of the tile. Then connect the two points together. You should check your measurements three or four times to ensure they are correct. The way to check your work is check the center of your angle to the wall and then check it against the angle you drew. Now here are 5 easy steps for cutting tile angles.

  1. The first thing that you will do is you’ve already got the tile laid out on the floor and you're ready to start doing some of your cuts. So once you've got your floor laid out in the tile, what you do is you take your tape measure and you measure from the longest distance off the wall to the corner of where your spacer is, and then three other tiles. Then you will get a measurement, it will vary depending on the size of the floor tile that you need, but this works for every tile.
  1. And so once you've got your measurement, go ahead and grab a tile that you are ready to cut and to mark that tile, so you'll take your tape measure, put it on one of the corners and you want to line it up so that your tape measure is basically going corner to corner, you measure out your 8 inches and make a mark.
  2. Once you've marked your 8 inches, go ahead and take a particular square which has a 45 degree angle on it and take that square, line it up with the measurement and draw a line.
  3. Once you've got your line and the tile marked, go to the cutting board and put that line on both sides of the cutting board, then go ahead and score the tile.
  4. Once you've scored the tile, go ahead and break the tile with the cutting board and then take the tile and put it in place. Now if everything is gone right and the walls are nice and straight and square, it will work out really good. However, if it's off a little bit, then you may have to another tile with your board or if you have a tile saw, you can go ahead and trim the tile, so that it fits exactly how you want it.
